Oh Andrew! Such a brave dissing of the sainted Austen- I could hear the collective rustle of offended middle class intellectuals’ crinolines. We should discuss…
Why, Mistress Marianne! Fancy seeing you here in the ribbon shop of Substack. Tbh, I suspect I just wasn't in the mood - another time maybe, when I have a little more patience for the prose and also the social mores.
Also, with so many of the classics I have QUESTIONS: where is the sex, and where is the money? And if it's not there on the surface, where can we find it?! I do find myself judging on this basis.
I did tell you I started to enjoy The Bell by Iris Murdoch much more once I reimagined its protagonist as a drag queen. Sometimes I feel queering and subversive strategies are necessary to one's reading delights.
Oooh! "For Isabella Rossellini, Acting Goes Beyond Words." I have to check this out! She's, as you know, one of my loves!!! Second generation love to boot!
Did you see Conclave yet? We went yesterday. Very melodramatic, and I *loved* it! She’s got a great part in it. I also loved her in La Chimera last year - didn’t even know she was in it and there she was.

Not yet! We hardly get to see adult movies in the theaters. We really enjoyed A Complete Unknown, though!
The Safekeep is intriguing, just grabbed a copy.
Thanks!
