I like your meditations on taste but also whose taste gets highlighted (as in judges tastes!) and the way upcoming theater tickets help you decide what to read! I need to read The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny! We'll see when... love this whole reflection, though, and I'm so glad you had a year (or rather a fall) of reading that made you happy. Yay!

Sonia and Sunny is magnificent, and for a number of reasons I suspect you’ll enjoy it very much indeed.

Already finished Oliver Twist, and now gripped by Bleak House - so rich.

How long is Sonia and Sunny?

I had my own Dickens phase and really enjoyed Oliver Twist! I've never read Bleak House, though...

Long - nearly 700 pages. Pages with lots of words on too! But very immersive. I read in short sections and really spun it out. It’s rich! It’s worth it.

Ayayay! Maybe over the summer. It sounds like I'd love it. Just... ah, time!

Yes, I think reading over a month or six weeks and immersively would be perfect. I have a year where I have committed to reading some big books, so I am committed (and needing to convince myself!).

The best time for reading long books for me was when I had a one-hour subway commute in New York each way. I read them all. It was glorious! Maybe we can pretend we're commuting and read long, complex books together!

Roy's book was top of my list also this year. Superb memoir. Also loved The Safekeep. Not too keen on reading the Booker winner. It was a disappointing turn-out in general. Also loved Kit's The Best of Everything. A very good storyteller. Happy reading in 2026.

The Safekeep was my fave book of last year: what a fantastic story that was.
